In heartbreak and relationships ending, a few things can happen. You can either grovel or beg to be taken back or you can level up and become a better version of yourself. It’s your path to pick. I mean, look at Australia’s hottest band, Between You & Me. They broke up with their label and went independent, some would say its game over, and some would say it’s just unlocking the next level. Blast their new EP Sh!t Yeah and try to explain to anyone that it’s not even a level up, it’s a whole new game and BYAM is at the top of the leaderboard.
BYAM kicked off Sh!t Yeah with “Kill My Vibe” and brought in none other than Joe Taylor. What more can you expect from the newest anthem in kicking people out of your life that no longer belong there? This is the era of moving forward in capacities that serve you, not hold you back. “You make it easier to hate your guts, I’m leaving ya” is the most polite way of shutting the door on your past and moving forward. To have this as the first song, on their first independent EP after a major breakup, speaks volumes, whether it was intended or not.
To make it clear there is no theme, no story line from start to finish. Simply pieces from five guys that put together something they became proud of enough to release it out to the world knowing it may rise up the expectations or it may fail. You’ll never know how far you art will go until you finish it and put it out for it be examined in fine detail, some might even bring out the white glove. For instance, BYAM released “Nevermind” a year ago as a one off single which was great, it was new music from a band that hadn’t released anything since Armageddon in 2021. Then eight months later they released “YEAH!” a song that was different from what they previously released and didn’t gain as much traction as hoped for, that was their fall but they kept going.
Sh!t Yeah was in the works, and the band announced their first ever headlining tour. It all became a chance to show anyone who would give a shit that they could actually do it on their own. They could release music and it might do well, it might not but it wouldn’t deter them from continuing on, so they did. Now months later, we have a new body of work, something to call their own. A six track EP with 4 tracks already released and it is still being an anticipated release. “Every Morning” and “Sad Songs” are the two, which at the time of this being written, have not been released yet.
Galaxy was given access to Sh!t Yeah at the beginning of March and having it on a near repeat for the last three weeks, it’s a bittersweet feeling and overwhelming sense of proudness in knowing that something may not work out and that is okay. Somethings may go down a different route and that is okay. BYAM is a band that worked towards getting a signed contract, they worked throughout their time with their label and now without missing a step, they are working even harder than ever before being independent. When you blast Sh!t Yeah think of that.
