Charlotte Sands releases debut album ‘can we start over?’

Article by Chloe Muñoz

When you come to the same fork in the road you once saw, do you go towards something that no longer serves you or opt for another option to where it can fill your cup and better you in the long run. To begin a chapter that culminates the past and how it will play into your future is something that Charlotte Sands has meticulously rolled into her debut record, can we start over?

The artistic value of seeing things from a different angle and forcing yourself to pick yourself and struggle in the new rather than being complacent in the old. The record begins with “use me” and has the lyrics, “You want all my time and all my energy/But you’re not my friend, you’re not my enemy” that creates the beginning of knowing that who you once had no longer serves you for whichever purpose it may have been. There could be many ways to describe a new beginning and when it comes to songs and records such as the ones that Charlotte is beginning to reproduce, there’s only one way that it can be different.

Not everyone is the same and no one goes through the same experiences in the same exact way. With that comes vulnerability that you can hear in these songs, turn off the lights, put your headphones in and close your eyes – I can guarantee at least a 86% chance that once “blindspot” and “can we start over?” comes on, you’ll be swaying back and forth and have memories of your own experiences and create that realization that what we go through in this world is universal, it just all happens own its own timing and in its own capacity.

can we start over? , is the record you turn on when you NEED to feel whether or not tears are accompanied, it makes you strive for an emotion that maybe you can’t describe in the moment but you know it’s there. Charlotte created a space where it’s okay to be vulnerable and it’s okay to lay out your all. You can do just that with her live on her own headlining tour starting March 7th in Texas, US and ends June 21st in London, UK
