Rising indie-pop sensation Cloe Wilder embraces vulnerability in her latest single, "Afterglow" featuring NICOLOSI. The track serves as the third single off Wilder's upcoming EP, I Spent My Summer on the Road, out April 19.
“Afterglow” is a melancholy duet featuring beautiful harmonies. It will transport you into a peaceful state of mind!
Cloe Wilder shares:
"Sam (NICOLOSI) and I wrote 'Afterglow' in December of 2021," states Wilder. "We knew that we wanted to sing something together eventually and this song was the one. He brought his banjo over and it became an immediate duet."
"For my birthday a few years ago, my mom gave me this crazy banjo made out of a chevy hubcap as the body, a vintage wooden ruler for the neck, and a Mark Twain Vinyl as the back of the banjo," NICOLOSI explains. "I brought it to the studio with Cloe and the song wrote itself really quickly. So shoutout to my mom for the awesome banjo that you hear on (the song)!"
"Escaping from locations is a big theme in my songs," Wilder continues on the theming behind the song. "But I also love the concept of leaving someone behind. 'Afterglow' sort of morphed into this story of two people growing apart in the wintertime; the understanding that the house has gone cold and there’s no way to imagine what that could feel like until it happens. I absolutely love that visual. I don’t typically hold onto songs this long, but this one always felt like a perfect piece of my project. Plus, I really love that we sing it together. I couldn’t imagine it any other way."
I Spent My Summer on the Road features two unreleased songs, including "Take It In," which was inspired by Cloe's experience on tour supporting Spencer Sutherland last year. Also featured on the EP is the rebellious "Fake ID," the somber, honest track "Little White Pills."
Wilder is currently in the middle of a 23-city tour supporting Charlotte Sands in venues across the United States. To celebrate the release of I Spent My Summer on the Road, Wilder will headline a hometown show at Crowbar in Tampa, FL on April 19. For tickets, please visit www.cloewilder.com.
Cloe Wilder is a unique artist who emerged into teenagehood with a distinctive vision, complete with earthy melodies, a breathy vocal tone and nostalgic storytelling. Comparable to a Floridian young Taylor Swift, the 17-year-old’s witty but intimate lyrics depict the type of dream-like recollections of place, home and internal feelings you want to live inside forever. The bare bones of the folk pop-leaning songs like ”Super 8" and "House by the Water'' have been influenced by Bon Iver but Cloe’s overall world is holistically inspired by one of her favorite artists, Lana Del Rey.
