Concert Review: The Disco Biscuits Show in Silver Springs

Review and photos by Sally Watanabe

The Disco Biscuits embarked on a two night run at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD last weekend. After a consistently stacked year with tours and festival appearances in 2023, the iconic electronic jamband returns to the road for their winter/spring tour, Why We Dance.

The Philadelphia based quartet has been a pioneer in engineering sounds that dance around the edges of electronic music and rock, often dubbed trance fusion. The group is gearing up to release their 9th studio album, accompanied by a four-part film animation, Revolution in Motion.

Fans were treated with a two set performance that elevated the tone of the evening with an absolute groove of a tune, Shem-Rah Boo. Kicking off the second night with fresh energy, the crowd packed in and raised the vibrations of the room to the chandeliers. Grooving on with the night, seamless transitions lead from Voices Insane into Buy The Time. With a full lighting setup, rainbow hues swept from all corners of the room, enchanting viewers and blending with the music to create an atmosphere of dreams and possibilities.

It was warming to see many people embody the message of the tour, sparking us to connect to our bodies and move in a way that inspires freedom and liberation. People easily tapped into a flow state through the music, dancing and radiating smiles even as the first set ended.

After a short break, The Disco Biscuits returned to take the stage and took a moment to commemorate International Women’s Day and all of the divine feminine in the room. Their first song of the second set was aptly And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night.

Each jam wove itself into the next, with sonic landscapes that created bubbly textures rooted in elements of rock and dance. With strong builds leading up to bigger moments of release, the crowd did not hold back from expressing themselves with the music. Small acts of kindness such as kandi exchanges were also witnessed throughout the night, in true PLUR fashion.

After building up the heat playing Above the Waves into Shadow, the band wrapped up their second set with a newer funky space age tune, Fire Will Exchange. Much to the delight of the crowd, they also returned for an encore.

The Why We Dance tour continues throughout North America through the end of April and you can get tickets to a show near you!
