Concert Review: Em Beihold - Maybe Life Is Good Tour
Article & concert photos by Lindsey V. Britt
Platinum-certified pop songstress Em Beihold embarks on her first headline tour after opening up for King Princess and Lewis Capaldi. Em has been releasing music since 2017 with her EP “Infrared.” She is best known for her song “Numb Little Bug” which is the second single off her EP “Egg in the Backseat.”
The opener for the Atlanta tour stop was South African pop sensation Will Linley, who’s just gotten off of his EU/UK The Magic Tour and has performed at several music festivals including Calabash South Africa, JBay Rocks, Barn On The Farm, and playing Lollapalooza this August. Linley did an amazing job getting the crowd hyped up, singing his hit songs “Gracie”, “Last Call”, “Tough (The Girls Song)” and previewing his new song “Blame” coming out on April 5th.
When Beihold took to the stage, she started the set with her song “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad” wearing a gorgeous white dress. After performing her song “Too Precious” which really got the crowd going, she moved over to her keyboard, where she told the story about how she always wanted to be an artist in music and thought auditioning for singing competition shows was her way into the industry. After being rejected from all of them and even her college acapella group, she was going to take a job as a PA on The Voice but right before, she released the song that introduced me to her and got her signed, which is “Groundhog Day”.
Beihold performed three unreleased songs during the concert, the first one being “Extraordinary” which she wrote about her “late night existenshies,” about how she’ll probably never become president even though she doesn’t want to be. The second song was “Shiny New Things” which might be my new favorite Em Beihold song, and I think everyone in the audience’s as well. The third song was “Lottery” about how if we’re not happy we think success will get us there and sometimes we get to where we thought would make us happy and it doesn’t, and that happiness comes from the inside and not externally.
During the show, Beihold invited her friend Leah Leach to join her up on stage to sing “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez which Beihold is featured on. Also, Beihold mentioned that $1.00 from every ticket sold is going to the nonprofit organization Active Minds which wants to reduce the stigma around mental health on college campuses. Another nonprofit organization was at the show called HeadCount which makes sure you’re registered to vote and if you already are and check your status at the show you get a cute little vote pin.
The night ended with Beihold singing her new song and namesake of the tour “Maybe Life Is Good” and of course, her smash hit “Numb Little Bug”. I really enjoyed the show and hope to see Will Linley and Em Beihold in concert again. Punxsutawney Phil was right this year because Spring came early with Em Beihold’s Maybe Life is Good Tour.
