Concert Review: Łaszewo Brings High-Energy to DC: A Night of Uplifting Music

Photos and Review by Sally Watanabe

Łaszewo took the historic Howard Theatre by storm last week, delivering a dynamic and unforgettable performance that had the audience dancing and singing from start to finish. The set was a perfect mix of original tracks and some surprising covers, demonstrating the band’s range and ability to captivate an audience.

The show featured songs from their brand-new album, In Color with the band’s frontwoman Kiki shining in sparkly pants that matched the shimmering energy she brought to the stage. During one moment, she explained the album’s concept, telling the crowd, “Sometimes life can feel a bit gloomy… so we choose to see the color.” That message resonated deeply with the audience, setting the tone for an uplifting, positive night.

Łaswezo had the audience fully engaged with call-and-response moments and sing-alongs. They energized the room with crowd-pleasing tracks that have anthem lyrics like “that’s an order, that’s a threat,” where hands were raised and voices joined in unison. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd jumping and fully embracing the band's infectious energy.

A standout moment came when Kiki took over the stage with just vocals and a piano. Her delicate playing and stunning voice had the crowd mesmerized. In a beautiful gesture, everyone turned on their flashlights as Kiki performed, filling the room with the raw emotion of the lyrics: “Wanna do this forever, I hope you don’t mind; write albums forever, write symphonies, the rest of our lives.” It was a quiet but powerful pause in an otherwise high-octane set.

But the energy didn’t stay low for long. Łaszewo turned up the heat with a drum and bass remix of “Up in Flames,” sending the room into a frenzy. As the beat dropped, the crowd exploded into motion, with everyone jumping, dancing, and fully immersed in the music. Songs that began with stripped-down vocals quickly transformed into full-blown electronic dance anthems, showing off the band’s ability to blend genres seamlessly.

With a final explosive sing-along, Łaszewo left the stage, but the energy in Howard Theater lingered long after the last note faded. It was a night that celebrated not just music, but community, positivity, and the joy of living fully in every beat.
