Concert Review: Madison Beer Spinnin At The Greek
Review by Lindsey V. Britt
After 55 shows, on the last night of the North American leg of The Spinnin Tour, Madison Beer put on an amazing concert at the legendary Greek Theater in Los Angeles, which was completely sold out.
The night started with L.A.- based, singer-songwriter NERIAH taking the stage, starting with her hit song “Unfinished Business”, followed by “SH!TSHOW”. NERIAH ended her set with her new song “First Time” which was officially released about an hour after she performed it, giving a shoutout to one of the song’s writers who was in the audience that night along with her boyfriend who she wrote it about.
Next up was Arizona native, alternative pop singer-songwriter UPSAHL, performing her song “Monica Lewinsky” which really got the crowd going. She played my favorite song of hers, a TikTok classic “Drugs”, UPSAHL sang her new song “Summer So Hot“ which was a favorite of the audience’s, as UPSAHL splashed the front row with her water bottle while performing it, and ending her set with “Lunatic.” UPSAHL is now getting ready for her own headline tour this fall.
Madison Beer took the stage with “Home To Another One.” The show had an out-of-this-world, cosmic galaxy feel, much like Beer’s latest album Silence Between Songs. She continued with “Good In Goodbye” with the crowd singing “G-O-O-D” in the song’s chorus. Beer got emotional when welcoming everyone to the tour, and again when she took a moment to thank everyone on her crew and management team, along with her family who was in the audience, the writers on the album, her band, and of course, the fans. Her stage for the show was great with a staircase down the middle, with an incredible screen showing visuals matching the song or using backgrounds/clips from Beer’s music videos, with her band on each end.
During “17” Beer threw flowers into the audience in reference to the lyric “To stop and smell the flowers.” Later in the show, Beer used the screen as a live background while performing “Stained Glass” and “At Your Worst.” While performing “Ryder,” she brought on stage her producers Leroy Clampitt and Tim Sommers (One Love) to perform the song which is about her brother, while showing home videos.
Towards the end of the show, a video of Beer singing along to “I Want a Little Sugar In My Bowl” by Nina Simone played before switching to Beer’s latest hit “Make You Mine,” singing it in a blackout, flashing lights set up, which looked amazing in person and on video. It really made it feel like the Jennifer’s Body inspired music video.
Beer finished out the show with fan favorites “BOYSHIT,” “Baby,” “Follow The White Rabbit,” which included bunny ears, the tour’s title track “Spinnin”, ending with “King of Everything.” Confetti was blasted everywhere when the show ended. But during the exit song “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, Beer came out for one final bow, wearing her bunny ears and holding a pride flag.
The Spinnin Tour was an awesome show that I was lucky enough to see live. I will definitely be updating my playlist with NERIAH’s music, along with listening to UPSAHL’s new song, while I wait to see what Madison Beer does next.
