Concert Review: We Caught It In Atlanta, Spin the Bottle Tour, Chrissy Costanza & VOILÀ

Article by Lindsey V. Britt

Just like magic, the music duo Voilà (Luke Eisner and Gus Ross) joined forces with the lead singer of the band Against The Current, Chrissy Costanza, who has recently released her debut EP VII, which Eisner and Ross helped write and produce. The duo performed songs from their discography, including songs off their latest album Glass Half Empty which was released this year. At Aisle 5, located in the iconic Little Five Points area of Atlanta is where we caught it.

The show started with the slipknot-shorty herself, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Ally Nicholas, who was the perfect opener for this tour. I liked her style of rock influenced by grunge and metal, with songs such as “All Summer Long” definitely making her one to watch.

When it was time for the main set, Costanza, Eisner, and Ross took the stage with their song “Caught It.” During the set, Ross and Costanza took turns on stage singing from both of their records, a technique I’ve liked about the double artists’ concerts lately, while Eisner played guitar the whole time, which was very impressive.

The concert had a really cool narrator throughout the concert’s translations, including a fun pre-show warm-up for the audience, adding to the fantasy aspect of the show. They also had a wheel for a lucky audience member to spin, and whichever song it landed on got played, the song it landed on that night was “Cruel”, which VOILÀ calls the saddest song they have.

One of my favorite moments during the show was Costanza performing her song “I Tried to Act Your Age,” which is about trying to grow up too fast while trying to be taken seriously by people who were older than her in the industry, as she joined Against The Current when she was 15. My favorite part of VOILÀ’s performance was getting to scream “That you like The Rolling Stones” from their hit song “Figure You Out,” which is ironic since I got a lanyard at both concerts this year.

While I could have stayed all night listening to every song they have recorded along with all the Angels & Demons, Fangs & Fairies, and Buccaneers & Bunnies in the venue, the show ended with Costanza and VOILÀ’s song “7 Minutes in Hell.”

All the artists have plans to tour again after selling out the Spin the Bottle Tour, with Nicholas opening for Bilmuri in February, and VOILÀ already teasing another tour.
