Fresh off the release of her latest single “When It Ends”, BIZZY is a Maryland native taking over Nashville’s alt-pop scene with her storytelling lyrics and hits such as “Anybody”, “My Age” and her latest EP I Don’t Get Breakups.
Recently you released your latest single “When It Ends”, what’s the story behind the song?
I wrote “When it Ends” in a place of desperate fear. It was a time where things were going so great in my life, but instead of being excited, I was just flat-out scared. It was a plea to my friends and family asking them to still love me if everything in my life crumbles.
Your EP I Don’t Get Breakups came out last year, and on it you released “Just Yet (His Side)” as the first track, what made you decide to have his side on there and put it as the first track?
That whole EP is about the end of my past relationship, it was the process of me trying to understand what I just went through. “Just Yet” is first on the EP because the story of the breakup is told in chronological order, so you can see the storyline unfold as you listen.
When you first started in music it was with songwriting, what made you attracted to that side of music before anything else?
Honestly, I always wanted to be the artist, but was so scared of singing in front of people that writing for other artists felt like the closest/safest choice at the time. Looking back, I’m SO grateful I started there, it helped me learn how to write and paint a story and figure out what I liked and didn’t like.
A lot of performers have to do lots of exercises and training to perform live, do you think being an athlete and background in swimming has helped you with that?
Yes! I think about that a lot actually. We would do this warm-up in practice where we’d hold our breath for two lengths of the pool while in a flat-out sprint, and I truly think that helped my lung span and breath control!
You just played Whiskey Jam, what was that like?
Oh my GAWDDDD it was so fun! That was the biggest crowd I have performed in front of, so it was a dang HOOT! The crowd was so interactive and hyped! I just had a blast!
Last year you opened up for FRENSHIP on their BASE CAMP tour, are you planning on touring again this year?
I hope so! I want to tour again so bad, it’s one of my favorite parts of being an artist!
I noticed you have a lot of hobbies, what’s your most recent one?
Hahah yes, I’m not good at sitting still. My current obsession is sewing! I really wanna start making my own clothes!
I’ve also noticed you like to travel, what’s been your favorite trip so far?
Yessss I love it! I just went to Seattle, Washington for a week. I stayed in a cabin in the mountains and it was incredible! I hiked every morning and got to sit out on the porch and soak up nature. It’s so necessary to just get away sometimes.
Is there a place you want to visit next?
My dream place to visit is Australia! I have truly wanted to go ever since I was 8 because they have koalas. And now I’m also obsessed with how stunning it is.
I heard you’re a huge Taylor Swift fan, what about her music inspires you?
You have done your research! I am quite a fan of hers! Like a lot of songwriters and singers my age, she made me realize that songwriting and singing was an actual thing a young girl could do! She's such an amazing lyricist. She is able to bring you into her world, while also making you feel like she’s reading your diary!
Taylor Swift’s new album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT comes out tomorrow, what do you anticipate for this new era?
I LITERALLY CAN'T WAIT!! Guessing from all the black and white outfits and promo she’s posting I think it’s gonna be super dramatic so I’m freakin hyped!!!
If you could plan your own personalized music festival, who would you want headlining/performing?
Oh my god, I LOVE this question. Obviously Taylor Swift. But I’ll give you a list of everyone! Reneé Rapp, Post Malone, Tommy Lefroy, Chappell Roan, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and ROLE MODEL. I would quite literally shit my pants if that lineup happened.
Last but not least, do you have a recommendation? It can be anything from a movie to a place, or an inanimate object, whatever you want it to be.
Ooooo lemme think! I’ll probably think of something I wished I said later today and be mad, but for right now what comes to mind is the series ‘Blacklist’ on Netflix. I’m ADDICTED!
Listen to “When It Ends” out now on all streaming platforms along with her other incredible songs.
