Interview: Nothing Lasts Forever With lolitslea
Interview by Lindsey V. Britt
New Jersey native lolitslea has been working the tri-state area pop-punk scene, with her debut album Nothing Lasts Forever! And she recently finished the NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! …INCLUDING THIS TOUR featuring davvn.
You’ve just released your debut album Nothing Lasts Forever! What was it like creating the album?
It was a long but rewarding process! I wrote the first song off that album back in December of 2022. At first, I was just working towards a couple of songs, but that quickly turned into a whole, thematic album. So I held off on releasing Favorite Singer until the album was finished early 2024 and the rest is history!
What is your favorite song off the album?
This is so hard! I really enjoy the work I’ve done, but I think based on the storyline and writing, my favorite song would be Exit Plan. The overall picture of this tune is based around nostalgia and reminiscing on the early/mid 2000s and how life was simpler, but the imagery for it is my Nintendo DS Lite that I sold at my local pawn shop. I got a pretty big tattoo for it too, so I guess that helps support why it’s my favorite haha.
You just got done with your NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! …INCLUDING THIS TOUR, what was your favorite memory from the tour?
I think just getting to submerge myself into the touring lifestyle. Getting to see how a day to day on tour would look and feel and bouncing from city to city to sing and hang out with so many cool people. The whole experience was like a dream come true and it has me eager to do it all again. Specific memories are probably just hanging out with davvn and our camp and closing down every restaurant or bar we walked into. Being on tour meant super late nights after load out and we were so hungry after shows. We’d get some food and drinks and just enjoy each other's company, which was the best!
What led you to cover one of my favorite songs "Year 3000" on tour?
I did a poll on my Instagram about what JoBros song I should cover. I really wanted to sing a Jonas Brothers song because they’re always in my range and SO much fun to perform! Because NLF! album and the tour were a playful space theme, traveling to the Year 3000 made so much sense. Plus, I got to change some of the words to fit my set and that was fun.
Is there an artist you would love to collaborate with one day?
So many. But my top would be Mayday Parade. They’re easily my favorite band and I take so much inspiration from their music for my own.
What’s it like being a part of the RIOT House?
Getting to be a frequently featured artist at RIOT House is awesome. The people in that collective are so kind and talented and RIOT as a whole has been so supportive of my music career. I hope to get to collaborate with them again soon!
Since you’re from New Jersey I have to ask if you are a New Jersey Devils fan?
I’m not gonna lie, I am not a sports person. However, I attended my first NHL game back when I lived in Nashville and I loved it! The atmosphere was so fun. I hope to get more involved in the NJ Devils games and maybe get to play a halftime show there soon! NJ Devils support the local Jersey alternative scene and I love them for that.
What is the Pop Punk scene like in New Jersey compared to other cities you’ve visited?
Lots of local DIY tri-state pop punk bands, I’ve been enjoying meeting so many bands while playing local shows. Definitely much smaller than what I’m used to in LA and Nashville, but I think it’s important to be tapped into your local scene.
Is there a genre of music people might be surprised you listen to?
I love a really good poppy/hip hop song that just hits in a club haha. I’m really big on matching a song with the environment so I can truly enjoy anything if it fits the scene that’s around me.
When it comes to bands you haven’t seen live, do you have a concert wishlist? If so, who’s on it.
I would love to see The Home Team, Bilmuri, and jxdn in regards to newer artists I’ve been listening to lately. As far as someone I haven’t seen yet, I’d love to attend a Hollywood Undead concert.
Do you have any New Year’s resolutions yet?
Just to keep building this project and riding the wave! It’s only up from here!
I heard you love craft beer, what is your favorite craft beer you’ve ever had?
This is a hard question because I’ve tried so many beers from all over the country haha. One of my all time favorites would have to be the Fryed Pickle from Frye Brewing in my hometown of Point Pleasant, NJ. I’ve hada lot of pickle beers, but they make the best IMO!
Finally, do you have a recommendation, this can be anything from from a place to visit, advice, anything you want.
I love giving advice to up-and-coming artists, like myself, to always ask questions and reach out for any opportunity you want to chase. I’d spend time hesitating and thinking too much of the “what if”s that I wouldn’t chase opportunities and ever since I changed that way of thinking, I’ve gotten way more yeses than nos! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and allow yourself to learn and grow.
