Interview: Made A Mistake With The Borin Brothers

Interview by Lindsey V. Britt

Brothers David, Daniel, and Andre, from Boca Raton, FL. are the new band on everyone’s radar. With their latest song “Made A Mistake”, the alt-pop trio is about to perform a hometown show on August 9th.

You recently released your new song “Made A Mistake”, what is the story behind the song?

David: The story behind “Made A Mistake” is about dealing with internal problems with yourself and your relationship, like the first line of the song is “How do I survive living in my own head.” It just explains it from then on. It’s just about kind of fighting with yourself and with another person at the same time but still wanting to love them either way but then it’s a mistake, so that’s why it’s called “Made A Mistake.”

Any updates on your next song?

David: Yeah “Butterflies” is coming out in a few weeks, we’ve been teasing it for close to a month now, and it seems like it’s set up to be a successful song, so we’re really excited about it.

Daniel: That’ll be sick.

Are there any plans to release an EP or LP soon?

Daniel: Not really right now, maybe at the very end of the year.

David: I don’t know what we’re looking at for this year when it comes to an EP or an album but it’s definitely soon-ish.

Is there an artist you would love to tour with one day?

Andre: It’s a good question, there’s many artists out there.

David: We love bands like The Neighbourhood…

Daniel: They don’t exist anymore.

David: Yeah, The Neighbourhood doesn’t exist anymore, unfortunately, but if they were still around that’s a band we’d love to connect with one day.

Andre: The 1975 is great, we like them a lot.

Do you have any gigs coming up?

David: We have a show on August 9th in our hometown at the Mizner Amphitheater, we’re going to be playing at 9:00 PM. We’re planning some more shows for this year, hopefully, because we’ve been building a fanbase we hope to really play for as many people as we can that have been following our band now for a little while.

Are there any festivals or places you would like to perform at?

Andre: Probably in the future I want to play Rock in Rio, that’s probably my dream venue.

Daniel: Lollapalooza.

David: We would love to play a cool festival for sure.

I’ve seen you boys a lot on social media over the past few months, how do you think social media has helped with the band?

David: I’d say we’ve been seeing people connect to the vision of our band, like the content that we post we really interact with our fans, and I think that’s something that has made us stand out from some bands these days. Also, our age, our fanbase is all around our age I’m 19, Andre is 15, and Daniel is 17, so it’s cool, it feels almost like growing up with your fans. I think social media has been playing a big part in our growth as a band.

Being Gen Z do you think it’s easier to be an artist nowadays than generations before?

Andre: I think so.

Daniel: But there’s a lot of artists now. Anyone can release music now and be like seen quote-on-quote.

Andre: You can definitely promote a lot of your music through social media, there are some really big bands out there right now that technically aren’t good but the people like them so it is what it is.

David: I think Gen Z, us as a generation we have short attention spans so the reason that many bands are blowing up on social media is because you give them five seconds of you. And if they like it they like it and if they don’t they skip, but I think there is a higher chance of becoming a successful artist these days, it’s my opinion.

You’re from Boca Raton, FL. What is the music scene like there?

Daniel: A lot of punk.

Andre: Rock.

Daniel: Or like old-head rock like Led Zeppelin and stuff, a lot of cover bands.

David: We’re definitely a lot different, we came out of the gate pretty different than everybody else, but we’re very thankful for some venues that have allowed us to play at their spots and some people that have helped us along the way. We’re pretty thankful for the place that we come from.

What is the vision for the band over the next few months?

Daniel: Probably to release a lot of music, get traction, like real traction on Spotify, and social media still but mostly focusing on music.

David: I think we can continue on the culture of our band and keep spreading love to people, make them feel like people care about them, and that our music is a gateway for people who are hurting or going through things, because we all struggle at the end of the day with something. If we can make a positive impact on our fans and on our friends that’s really all we want.

When I saw the name The Borin Brothers it reminded me a bit of The Jonas Brothers, was there any correlation there when deciding the band name?

David: Well, we’re brothers but some people to this day don’t quite get that we’re brothers yet, they think it’s like boring but not, like slang for boring. We’re like it’s not it’s actually our last name, it’s funny but our last name is Borin.

Andre: A lot of people reference us to The Jonas Brothers, they’re like oh well are you the new Jonas Brothers or something, it’s like okay.

Daniel: Just cause it’s in our name.

Last Question, do you three have a recommendation? this can be anything from a movie to a place, restaurant, or advice.

David: I probably say a phrase, persevere, and don’t give up on your dreams, work hard with what you wanna do. I’m not going to recommend like a place, I think a phrase would be more fitting to my personality.

Daniel: I think everyone should learn how to surf, at least once or try. That’s basically it, that’s all I do.

Andre: Wear what you like, don’t dress for people but dress for yourself.
