Concert Review: Saxsquatch at The Atlantis in Washington, DC

Article & Photos by Sally Watanabe

This past Valentine’s day, love spread through the air with a night of music at the historic Atlantis venue in Washington, DC. With a saxophone, a Bigfoot suit, and a dream, the one and only Saxsquatch took to the stage and entertained the crowd with dance music, animated visuals, and a memorable interactive performance.

A palpable energy shifted through the crowd as colorful wands, costumes and teletubbies filled the dance floor. Doughish opened the evening with some groovy house and hip hop music to warm up as people poured in for the opening night of The Bigfoot Rave Tour.

Through the pine trees and smoke, the outline of a creature both fabled and unbestowed to man emerged with a message and a Saxophone: Be Whatever You Believe In.

Saxsquatch has been roaming around the stage since 2019, gaining popularity on social media through his saxophone covers, upright bass and funky beat sampling. Some of his covers on this night included One More Time by Daft Punk, Every Breath You Take by Daft Punk, an EDM remix of Africa by Toto, Theif by Ookay, and Taylor Swift of course. The set left me with a feeling of nostalgia– mostly songs stripped of vocals and replaced with an energizing saxophone that gave it a mystic twisted vibe.

Fans enjoyed the spectacle of such an unusual act on a Wednesday night in the capital of the nation. The roar of the crowd was especially loud as Saxsquatch made his way from the stage and into the crowd, light up Saxophone in hand. This was just one of the three saxophones he

brought out on stage with him, along with an upright bass he used to start a beat for some of his original tracks.

With this just being the first stop on tour for the Bigfoot Rave, you can catch Saxsquatch at an upcoming event by checking out their page. Follow the music and find what you believe in.
