Sofi Tukker brought their signature high-energy performance to The Anthem in Washington, DC, last weekend, celebrating the release of their third studio album, Bread. The duo, known for creating euphoric dance music, took the crowd on a wild ride filled with thumping bass, lasers, and choreography that had everyone moving from start to finish.

Bread, the follow-up to the duo’s 2022 album WET TENNIS, marks a new chapter for the Grammy-nominated pair. With 10 new tracks, including collaborations with Channel Tres and Kah-Lo, the album is packed with the kind of vibrant, globally-inspired beats and irresistible vocal hooks that have become Sofi Tukker’s hallmark. The title, an acronym for Be Really Energetic And Dance, perfectly captures the duo's ethos—and their performance at the Anthem was the living embodiment of that mantra.

Sofi Tukker took us through a night of all the emotions, with heartwarming tunes and playful dance tracks as well as a pulsing remix of their classic “Purple Hat,” this time reimagined with a drum and bass twist. The audience erupted as the lasers projected through the venue, signaling that the party had officially begun. Tucker Halpern’s towering presence behind the decks and Sophie Hawley-Weld’s sultry vocals on guitar combined in perfect harmony, with dancers flanking them in carefully choreographed routines that felt effortless and free-spirited at the same time.

At one point, the duo surprised everyone by bringing a young fan from the crowd on stage, adding a touch of heartwarming spontaneity to the show. As the child tried their best to follow Sophie’s dance moves, the audience cheered with delight, embracing the free-spirited, inclusive atmosphere Sofi Tukker always brings.

Of course, no Sofi Tukker show would be complete without some booty-shaking, and the duo didn’t disappoint. Performing their unapologetically fun single “Throw Some Ass,” they had the entire venue moving in unison to the infectious beat. The choreography—featuring bread-shaped weights as a quirky nod to their album title—was playful and perfectly synced with the duo’s larger-than-life energy.

As the lights dimmed and Sofi Tukker took their final bow, it was clear: this show, much like their new album Bread, was a full-bodied experience—packed with rich, satisfying moments that left the audience wanting more. Paired with a dazzling light show, the performance reached its peak as everyone—from die-hard fans to newcomers—swayed together, fully immersed in the music. Their two-year journey to craft the album has resulted in a playful and euphoric sonic world that will have fans dancing for months to come.
